Hello you beautiful bride! Are you debating whether or not you really want getting ready photos? Let me stop you right there and say, you WANT them. Getting ready to marry your love is such a special time on your wedding day. You spent so many hours choosing your dress, hair style, jewellery, shoes and makeup - every detail - it’s worth capturing you bringing your vision to reality. I cherish the photos I have from when I got ready and I know you will too.

Here are some tips for your getting ready photos:

1] Make sure it’s well lit. Choose your getting ready room based on the lighting. A room with as much natural light as possible is best. The room doesn’t need a view, just make sure you’ve got some good windows working in your favour.

2] Declutter. When you look back on these photos, you don’t want to see the messy bits in the room [ie. food wrappers or dishes, water bottles, bags, etc.] , but rather a clean space with just the essentials: you and your ladies, your dresses, shoes, bouquets and maybe some bubbly. There is no shame in having the other stuff in your room, but when it’s time for photos, let’s clear it away or stash it out of sight. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

3] Put all your details together. When I arrive, it’s so helpful if everything you’re going to put on is in one spot. Keeping your hair accessories, bouquet, rings [bride’s and groom’s], garter, jewellery, veil, dresses [yours and your bridesmaids] and shoes all together means I can get right to photographing the details first without having to track them all down. This in turn, gives me the most amount of time possible to capture you and your bridesmaids getting ready.

4] Don’t forget to eat. OK, that one isn’t for the photo prep, but it’s still really important! Often this is the last chance you get to eat until dinner is served at your reception so make sure you’ve got a plan in place for some food to be around. Whether it’s sushi you’ve ordered in or coffee and muffins, just try to get something down before the rest of your big day happens. And then refer to tip #2 for photo prep after eating.

There’s one more…

5] Relax and enjoy the process! This is YOUR day. Do it the way you want to and savour every moment of it!
